Eagles’ Hurts Putting Up Impressive Numbers and Receives Award
After a slow start to the season, Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts is playing better in recent weeks. After Sunday's win over the Washington Commanders, Hurts has earned another award and has separated himself from past Eagles Quarterbacks.
Jalen Hurts has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week because of his 319 Passing Yards along with 4 Passing Touchdowns and a 135.7 Passer Rating. This is Jalen Hurts' third career Player of the Week Honor and he is now the fifth Quarterback in Eagles Franchise History to receive this award at least three times.
After NFL Week 8, Hurts is seventh in the NFL with 2,140 Passing Yards and has the sixth most Passing Touchdowns (13). At 53 games into his NFL career, the 25-year-old Quarterback has a combined 89 Passing and Rushing Touchdowns, which is more than some former Eagles QBs: Donovan McNabb had 81 in his first 53 NFL games while Randall Cunningham had 79 and Michael Vick had just 72. Aside from the prolific scoring, Hurt also has fewer Interceptions (27) in his first 53 NFL games compared to his predecessors in Philadelphia: McNabb had 37 while Cunnigham threw 49 and Vick had 33 in their first 53 games in an Eagles uniform.
Beyond Eagles Franchise history, the 2019 Heisman Trophy Runner Up is also putting his name into the NFL record books. Jalen Hurts is now the sixth player in league history with six consecutive games with 300+ Combined Rushing and Passing Yards along with two combined Rushing and Passing Touchdowns. The only players who have accomplished longer consecutive game streaks with those statistics are Andrew Luck (eight straight games in 2014), Drew Brees (seven consecutive games in 2011), and Aaron Rodgers (seven straight in 2011).
In Jalen Hurts first three games this season he had only three Passing Touchdowns, but in the last five games he has 10 Passing Touchdowns. Remember last season he also had a slow start to the 2022 season before playing at the elite level that would lead him to be the Runner-up in the NFL MVP Award voting.
