The Philadelphia Eagles continued making cuts Tuesday ahead of the NFL’s 4 p.m. deadline, releasing wide receiver Ainias Smith, a 2024 fifth-round draft pick, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Eagles Release Ainias Smith Ahead of Deadline

The team began the process to reduce its roster to 53 players by Tuesday deadline over the weekend releasing safety Lewis Cine and quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson.

Impact of John Metchie III and Darius Cooper

The release of Smith comes as a slight surprise, but the addition of John Metchie III and the emergence of Darius Cooper during training camp might have pushed him of the initial 53-man roster.

Smith, a 2024 fifth-round choice by Philadelphia out of Texas A&M, had seven catches for 41 yards and a touchdown as a rookie last season and would likely be added to the practice squad if he goes unclaimed on waivers.
