During his time in Minnesota, Chuck Fletcher built a strong analytics team that was revered around the league. In his first few months as Flyers GM, Fletcher mentioned the emphasis that needs to be on having analytic minds on the hockey operations side.

Fletcher is working on building the same kind of analytics team in Philadelphia, as the Flyers announced two new hirings and two promotions within their hockey analytics department on Wednesday afternoon.

Ian Anderson was promoted to director of hockey analytics. He has been with the organization as a manager of hockey analytics since 2014. Jacob Hurlbut was promoted to lead developer. He has been with the Flyers since 2016.

The two new hirings both have local ties to the Flyers. Tom Minton, named director of hockey information/video, and Matthew Karliner, named an analyst, both graduated from St. Joseph’s University. Minton previously held an internship with the Flyers and was part of the hockey operations staff in Minnesota for the last four seasons.

The Flyers will open Rookie Camp this Saturday with on-ice activity beginning at 9:30 a.m. Rookie Camp will run from Saturday through next Wednesday, Sept. 11. Main training camp begins next Friday, Sept. 13.
