In his first game of the preseason, it didn't take long to see the payoff of Matvei Michkov's offseason work. Now, it is preseason, and the Boston Bruins didn't dress many NHLers, but the 21-year-old sure did look a lot lighter and faster.

Michkov scored the opening goal and that proved to be enough for the Philadelphia Flyers. Joseph Woll stopped all 28 shots that came his way in a 2-0 win for the Flyers on Thursday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Michkov's goal came at 4:02 of the first period. Michkov was in front of the net for the rebound to make it 1-0. Porter Martone and Helge Grans picked up assists on the goal.

The Flyers were largely in control of the first period, but only managed one goal with Michael DiPietro making 14 saves. The Flyers had a 15-5 lead in shots through 20 minutes.

The tables were turned in the second, as the Bruins narrowed the game in the shots column with a 14-6 advantage in the period. Woll stopped everything that came his way and the Flyers took the one-goal lead to the third.

The Flyers extended the lead at 2:57 of the third. Cole Knuble finished off his second goal of the preseason to make it 2-0 Flyers.

Woll made another nine saves in the third period, including one on the goal line in the final minute of the third for the shutout win. DiPietro had 26 saves on 28 shots in the loss.

The Flyers finish out preseason play on Saturday evening at 5 PM, taking on the Washington Capitals.
