Flyers Finally Get First Win of the Year Over the Senators
The Philadelphia Flyers faced off against the Ottawa Senators at home in this Saturday night bout and the losing streak is officially over. The Flyers take down the Ottawa Senators by a final score of 3-1. It is the Flyers first win of the year as well as their first time all year scoring 3 goals. Goals by Porter Martone, Matvei Michkov, and Trevor Zegras give the Flyers the juice to get the job done.
The building could feel it as the clock was getting closer and closer to 0:00 and the Flyers were feeding off of their energy. There seems to be a great connection between the young guys Matvei Michkov and Porter Martone as they were buzzing around the ice and were able to each record a goal and an assist.
Game Breakdown
1st Period
The Flyers had the upper hand for the majority of the period over the Senators. The Flyers won the shot battle in the period 14-8 and had the more dangerous scoring chances. The Flyers also got 2 power plays and both looked very promising, they were able to get the puck moving while also getting shots off. On a down note Tyson Foerster blocked a shot on the penalty kill off his wrist and headed straight to the locker room.
2nd Period
The Martone Michkov connection proves to be a positive for the Flyers as Porter Martone and Matvei Michkov both score this period and the cherry on top is they were the primary assists on each other's goals. Matvei Michkov has looked very good tonight with the puck and it showed finding Porter Martone with the back door cut to get the Flyers’ first goal of the period. Michkov found the back of the net on the power play off a rebound from a Porter Martone shot. Ottawa did open up the scoring in the period though with a 2 on 1 opportunity where Claude Giroux sauced one over to Drake Batherson for the one time goal to open up the scoring. Flyers still lead the shots after 2 24-15. Tyson Foerster also returned to the ice to start the period but was noticeably favoring the hand that got hit from the shot in the 1st period.
3rd Period
The Xfinity Mobile Arena had the juice for the 3rd period and the Flyers heard it and responded. The Flyers played a strong end to the 3rd period to hold off the Senators. To end the game Trevor Zegras netted an empty netter to close out the game to give the Flyers their first victory.
