The Philadelphia Flyers have sent F Maxime Talbot to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Steve Downie.

Downie has one goal and six assists in 11 games for the Avs this season.

Downie, 26, was a Flyers' first-round pick in 2005 and spent two years with the team before being traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2007. He's in the final season of his 2-year, $5.3 million contract.

Talbot, 29, has no goals and registered just one assist in 7 games for the Flyers this season.

Downie could be considered one of the toughest forwards in the NHL for his size and fit in nicely with the Avs.

Downie is also known for delivering one of the biggest hits the NHL has seen in years when he was with the Flyers.

Downie was suspended 20 games for this hit on Dean McAmmond which left the Senators player with a concussion.
