It's only preseason for the Flyers, and it's important to keep that in mind. But they couldn't have made a better first impression in the exhibition schedule.

The Flyers opened the preseason with a scoring barrage from several of their young players. Bobby Brink and Morgan Frost scored twice and Joel Farabee had a four-point game, as the Flyers rolled to a 6-2 win over the Washington Capitals on Sunday afternoon.

The Flyers got the game's first goal at the four-minute mark. Jett Luchanko picked up an assist, starting a rush with a lead pass to Farabee. Farabee made a centering pass to Brink, who finished on the backhand to make it 1-0.

The Flyers briefly had a 2-0 lead at 16:44. Matvei Michkov picked up his first point of the preseason, assisting on a goal for Frost at the side of the net.

Just 36 seconds later, the Capitals answered with a goal of their own. Andrew Cristall fired a shot through a screen that deflected off Nick Seeler and beat Ivan Fedotov to make it 2-1.

Through 20 minutes, shots were 7-6 Flyers.

The two teams traded power-play goals in the second. The Flyers extended their lead at 10:22 as Farabee finished off a tic-tac-toe passing play.

With just 1:25 remaining in the period, Ivan Miroshnichenko fired a shot to the short side on Fedotov to make it 3-2.

Through two periods, shots were 16-12 Flyers. Fedotov finished with 10 saves on 12 shots in his preseason debut. Hunter Shepard made 11 saves on 14 shots before exiting midway through the period.

After killing off the remaining time of a penalty to start the third, the Flyers added a pair of goals in short order.

Brink scored his second of the afternoon with a nice backhand from the slot to make it 4-2 at 5:37. Just 74 seconds later, Olle Lycksell went backhand from alone in front to make it 5-2.

The Flyers added another goal with eight minutes remaining to cap the scoring. Frost picked up his second goal of the game on a rebound, cleaning up after a nice setup from Michkov to Farabee.

Carson Bjarnason made nine saves in the third period. Clay Stevenson finished with 11 saves on 14 shots in relief.

Farabee had a goal and three assists for a four-point game. Frost had two goals and an assist for a three-point day. In addition to Brink's two goals, Michkov and Luchanko each had two assists.

The Flyers continue the preseason schedule on the road on Monday night against the Montreal Canadiens at 7 p.m.
