Free Food at Citizens Bank Park Every Friday in June
The coronavirus pandemic has caused many businesses to close their doors, which has put people's incomes on hold.
The Washington Post reports that more than 40 million people have applied for unemployment and I know some people are still waiting to receive their money.
Stimulus checks are even backed up as CBS News reports, 20 million Americans have not received them yet. So with money being hard to come by, this means that food is hard to come by for many people. There's also the problem of schools being closed and kids that rely on school lunches are not able to get them. Thankfully, many, if not all school districts have kept distributing school meals for children, but adults are suffering too and no one should go hungry.
Philabundance, a Philadelphia organization trying to make sure individuals and families have food, will give 35 pounds of food to each car that comes through Citizens Bank Park. Food will be distributed from 9am to 1pm in Lot N and to keep everyone safe, food will only be given to those who have a vehicle.
6abc says that Philabundance has seen an increase of 60% of people who are in need of their services. They hope to feed as many as possible with this pop up food distribution center as well as 40 more locations around the city.
