Good News: Eagles Getting Depth For The Cornerback Position

One of the Philadelphia Eagles roster concerns ahead of the 2024 season is the team's depth at Cornerback. James Bradberry and Darius Slay are both over 30 years old while Avonte Maddox has only played in 16 games one time in his six seasons in an Eagles uniform.

The Eagles had mixed results when they were forced to play young Corners Kelee Ringo, Josh Jobe, Eli Ricks, and Mario Goodrich. While the expectation is that Philadelphia will select a Cornerback in the 2024 NFL Draft, there is good news for the Eagles ahead of draft night.

Eagles Will Have Versatile Cornerback For 2024 NFL season

On Tuesday, Cornerback Isaiah Rodgers was reinstated by the NFL after his 2023 suspension for violating the league's gambling policy.  In an interview with ESPN's John Barr, Rodgers admitted to making bets from his online account on the NFL but did so for friends living in Florida.

The Eagles signed Rodgers last August even though he was suspended indefinitely. Philadelphia has retained his rights for the last eight months and now that his suspension is over, he can officially join the team.

Now 26 years old, Rodgers started 10 of his 45 games played for the Indianapolis Colts from 2020 to 2022. Rodgers is a versatile player who can play both Outside and Nickel Corner positions, with Three Interceptions and 10 Passes Defended in his NFL career.

Rodgers also has experience as a Kick Returner with 61 career Returns for 1,645 yards and ran back a Kickoff return for a Touchdown in 2020. Now that the NFL has approved changes to the Kickoff Rules for the 2024 season, a player like Rodgers becomes even more valuable for the Eagles.

Rodgers played 525 Defensive Snaps for the Colts in 2021 and 430 Defensive Snaps in 2022, so he has the NFL experience to make him a Veteran Cornerback to backup Slay, Bradberry, and Maddox.
