PHILADELPHIA — The Flyers head to Detroit a little lighter on their flight out of Philadelphia.

Both left wing Scott Hartnell and center Vinny Lecavalier will stay back to have MRIs and are expected out “at least a week,” according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

Hartnell left at 13:12 of the first period of Friday night’s 2-1 loss with an upper-body injury. It’s not clear exactly what happened on the play, but coach Craig Berube said he saw Hartnell come off the ice in apparent pain. He played only 3:28 and had four shifts in the first period.

Brayden Schenn took a couple shifts in Hartnell’s place toward the end of the first period, but when the team came out for the second period it was Matt Read who filled the void.

Hartnell, 31, has no points through the first four games of the season.

Vinny Lecavalier also left the game, his injury coming in the second period.
