Scott Hartnell is hoping to sign a contract extension with the Philadelphia Flyers.

"Scott would welcome coming back; he loves it in Philadelphia," Hartnell's agent, Matt Oates, said. "But we haven’t had any contact with the Flyers just yet."

Hartnell, 30, is coming off of a career year with the Orange and black where he scored 37 goals and 67 points in 82 games. Hartnell is currently scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. but the Flyers may want to see if he can come close to matching his numbers before they give him a deal similar or even better to the one he is currently playing with - a six-year, $25.2 million deal he signed with the Flyers when he came over from Nashville in 2008.

Hartnell had a break-out season playing with Claude Giroux and Jaromir Jagr last season.  With Jagr gone, do the Flyers see Hartnell as the same player for the 2012-2013 season?

That is the big quesiton.

My feeling is a deal gets done, Hartnell is a very popular player and is a hear and soul type the the organization loves.
