Hulk Hogan: Wrestling Legend with Deep Atlantic City Ties Dies at 71
Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, best known for his time in WWE and WCW, also made a name for himself right here in Atlantic City at what is now known as Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.
Hogan passed away on Thursday morning at age 71 from what is reported to be cardiac arrest as medics were dispatched to his home in Clearwater Beach Florida, but were unable to revive him.
Hogan’s Atlantic City Legacy
Hogan took part in two Wrestlemania events at Boardwalk Hall, WrestleMania IV and V.
WrestleMania IV and the André Showdown
His match with André the Giant ended in a double disqualification in WrestleMania IV. He would leave the promotion after the event to film the movie "No Holds Barred".
The Mega Powers Explode at WrestleMania V
In WrestleMania V he would face Randy "Macho Man" Savage for the WWF championship in the famous match billed "The Mega Powers Explode". Hogan would win the title with his famous leg drop.
The match is considered one of the best of their careers.
He also hosted Pool After Dark at Harrah's Atlantic City on Saturday October 10, 2015 with his wrestling manager Jimmy Hart.
Hogan’s Hangout and Phillies Spring Training
Hogan made his home in Clearwater Beach, Spring Training home of the Philadelphia Phillies. His bar, Hogan’s Hangout, is a popular spot for Phillies fans during Spring Training in March.
I’ve visited when Hogan was there, and lines would form down the street just to see him host karaoke night.
Here is a photo of my college roommate singing karaoke at Hogan’s Hangout.
He also has a Memorabilia store that displays much of his merchandise from his wrestling career.
