Authorities in Camden County say a man from Texas has been arrested for allegedly fatally shooting his wife at a hotel.

38-year-old Steven Burgess of Spring, TX, has been charged with first-degree murder for the death of 30-year-old Ivy Morris.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office says at around 1:45 early Wednesday morning, officers with the Runnemede Police Department responded to the Days Inn near Exit 3 on the New Jersey Turnpike for a report of a carjacking and a shooting.

Officers spoke with the victim of the carjacking who told them that a man fired a handgun at him and then stole his vehicle.

Following an investigation, Burgess was arrested by the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Philadelphia Police Department's SWAT Team.

Burgess is currently in custody in Philadelphia pending extradition to New Jersey.

Authorities say this is an active and ongoing investigation and additional charges are pending.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
