4 DWI Arrests in Washington Township, 2 With Kids in the Car
Washington Township, N.J. — It was a busy Labor Day Weekend for the Washington Township Police Department with nearly 330 calls for service, 13 arrests, and a weekend that included four DWI arrests, multiple psychiatric emergencies, and one situation that could have turned a quiet corner of Gloucester County into a 800-person college party.
4 DWIs, 2 of Them With Kids in the Car
The weekend's most disturbing pattern was DWI arrests involving children.
A woman from Newark, DE, was pulled over on the Black Horse Pike near the Wawa and blew a .12% BAC. Her three children, ages 2, 8, and 11, were in the car. She was charged with DWI and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. The children were turned over to a family member at the scene.
McDonald's called police after employees noticed a man inside the restaurant slurring his words and having difficulty walking, with a small child in tow. A Collings Lakes man was arrested for DWI and endangering the welfare of a child. He was turned over to the county jail.
Another McDonald's call came from the parking lot at 5801 Black Horse Pike, where a 22-year-old Woodbury man was found unconscious and unresponsive behind the wheel; he also had an active $3,000 warrant for his arrest.
A Sicklerville man rounded out the DWI arrests after blowing a .19% BAC on the Black Horse Pike near Whitman Drive.
800-Person College Party Quietly Shut Down
Glassboro Police tipped off Washington Township officers to an online flyer advertising a massive Rowan University welcome party at a venue in the township.
More than 800 people had already indicated interest and tickets were still being sold.
Officers tracked down the venue, contacted the owner, and the event was canceled. Officers remained in the area to make sure it stayed that way.
Other Notable Incidents
A Pennsylvania man stopped on foot on Tuckahoe Road turned out to be an NCIC fugitive wanted out of Illinois. A Fugitive from Justice warrant was issued and he was turned over to the county jail.
Officers also located a missing 13-year-old after her grandmother reported her gone, and upon arrival at the residence, DCPP was notified about conditions inside the home. Gloucester County Animal Control was also called regarding several dogs found confined in crates.
Four separate psychiatric emergencies were handled over the weekend, three involving juveniles who were transported to area hospitals for crisis evaluations.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
