16-year-old Charged With Attempted Murder in Willingboro Shooting
Willingboro Township, N.J. — A 16-year-old Willingboro boy is facing attempted murder charges after authorities say he fired multiple shots from a moving vehicle at a person standing in their own front yard.
The teenager, whose name cannot be released because of his age, was taken into custody July 31st at his home following a search warrant that turned up a firearm and ammunition.
Shots Fired From a Moving Vehicle
According to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office, on July 25th, a resident of Garland Lane in Willingboro called police to report that someone had opened fire from a moving vehicle at a family member who was in the front yard. The intended victim was not struck, but the home was hit by gunfire.
Detectives from the Willingboro Township Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office identified the juvenile as the suspect and arrested him six days later.
Charges
The teenager faces first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault and multiple second-degree weapons charges, third-degree receiving stolen property, and fourth-degree charges including possession of a firearm by a minor and possession of armor-piercing ammunition.
Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw was blunt in a message to those considering similar acts, saying, "To those who think they can shoot up a neighborhood in the middle of the day and won't be caught and prosecuted — you need to think again."
The teen was placed in a juvenile detention facility in Middlesex County pending a hearing in Superior Court in Mount Holly.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
