Phillies and Eagles plus Margate Lifeguard Races Cap the Weekend
The Philadelphia Phillies return home after taking three out of four games from a pesky Miami Marlins team that remains in the National League Wild Card Race, a half game out of the final wild-card spot. The Phillies, nine games over .500 this season and sitting in the second wild-card spot, look to get separation in the wildcard race by welcoming to Philadelphia the second-worst team in the American League, the Kansas City Royals. The Royals are 14-39 away from home but swept the Mets before heading to Philly. Let’s hope the Phillies can take advantage of the Royals and continue to solidify their standing in the NL Wild Card Race.
The Philadelphia Eagles continue with Training Camp in South Philly. With no major injuries to report, the biggest news out of camp was the unveiling of their new Kelly Green uniforms. I LOVE Them!!! On the field, the Eagles have some position battles for who will start at Right Guard and Safety this season after an offseason where the Birds lost five starters from last year's team. Also, the Eagles coaches are keeping an eye on the Running Backs with two new players competing for playing time: Rashaad Penny and D'Andre Swift.
Finally, the first Friday night in August marks the second biggest Lifeguard Race of the South Jersey Summer Season. The Margate Memorial Lifeguard Championship is Friday Night coverage on 973 ESPN starts at 6 pm. The Locker Room with Billy Schweim crew featuring former Chief of the Longport Beach Patrol Dan Adams, former Lieutenants of the Ocean City Beach Patrol John McShane and Jack Brooks will be broadcasting Live from the beach in Margate covering all the action. The Margate Memorial Lifeguard Race features the Singles Row, the Swim, and the Doubles Row. Every beach patrol from Brigantine to Cape May Point will compete for the prestigious Margate Memorial Trophy as the best and will be seen as the team to beat in next Friday’s South Jersey Lifeguard Championship for Lifeguard supremacy.
