Jake Arrieta waited ten days after signing his three-year, $75 million contract, to make his first spring training start, allowing two runs in two innings, striking out two in his spring debut Thursday against the Tigers.

He won’t have to wait that long to make his first start that counts.

Arrieta has been named the starter for the Phillies home opener on April 8 against the Marlins, Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said on Saturday.
