The Philadelphia Phillies added a key bullpen arm in free agency on Monday, inking two-time All-Star Jordan Romano to a one-year contract.

Romano spent the first six seasons of his major league career with the Toronto Blue Jays, he has 105 saves and two All-Star appearances in 2022 and 2023.

"He's one of the best back-end guys in the league the last couple of years," Phillies manager Rob Thomson told Corey Sideman of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

2024 was a tough one for Romano, who dealt with an elbow issue, which limited him to just 15 appearances.

Thomson said he thinks the elbow issues are behind him.

"We've had our eyes on him. He's high velocity and a good slider. He has experience pitching in high-leverage, being a closer. We really like him, so I'm excited", Thomson said.

He joins a Phillies bullpen that could have a different look in 2025 with Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estévez both free agents, but Romano wanted to come to Philadelphia,  and it steams from pitching against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

"I played there last year and it was a Tuesday or Wednesday day game and the place was absolutely sold out. The atmosphere was electric. After that series, I said if I ever got the chance to play there I think I'd really enjoy it."
