Mariners Acquire South Jersey Native Buddy Kennedy From Giants

The Seattle Mariners acquired Millville High School alum Buddy Kennedy in exchange for cash considerations from the San Francisco Giants on Sunday night. The Giants called Kennedy up from Triple-A on June 1, but designated him for assignment on Sunday.

Mariners Add Versatile Depth to 40-Man Roster

The 2017 fifth-round MLB Draft pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks made his MLB debut in 2022, hitting a grand slam two days later on Father's Day against the Minnesota Twins for his first big league home run.

Since then, he has spent time with the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers and the Giants.

Kennedy's Track Record and Positional Versatility

He spent parts of two seasons with the Phillies, appearing in 12 games, hitting .111 in 18 at-bats with Philadelphia. The right-handed hitter can play multiple positions in the field, giving him value and positional versatility.

Kennedy has appeared in 74 big league games, hitting .171 with two home runs, playing second, third, and first base.  The Phillies tried him out in left field during Spring Training, but he hasn't appeared in an MLB game in the outfield.

During his time playing for the Thunderbolts, in his senior season in 2017, Kennedy hit .493 with 6 home runs and was selected by Arizona.
