ESPN Predicts Surprising Free Agency Contracts for Two Key Phillies Stars
The Philadelphia Phillies make the postseason for the fifth straight season, but it might be time to shake some things up.
While a lockout looms, a few key members of last season’s team will hit the open market in free agency.
Free Agency Looming for Two Key Phillies Infielders
ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel projected the contracts of the top 50 free agents, and a pair of Phillies made the list: second baseman Luis Arraez and third baseman Alec Bohm.
Luis Arraez: High-Floor Contact Hitter Command Top Dollar
Arraez, ranked as McDaniel’s 12th-best available free agent, should have "plenty of demand."
McDaniel projects his contract at three years, $54 million.
Arraez's offense is a known entity -- top-of-the-scale contact rate, five-to-10 homers per year, limited walk rate -- which, on the whole, using wRC+, has been above average every year of his career. He's still 29 years old until April and now is a high-floor player with notably more ceiling.
Alec Bohm: One-Year Deal Signal a Change of Scenery?
Next on the list, ranked lower down the list at No. 43, was Bohm. The long-time Phillie and former No. 3 overall pick had another typical Bohm season, with a bunch of RBI and a low number of home runs.
McDaniel projects his contract at one year, $12 million.
Bohm has had an up-and-down career at the plate and defensively at third base. He was a much better hitter in the second half this year (118 wRC+ vs. 71 wRC+ in the first half), and in his career, he has done his damage against left-handed pitching (130 wRC+ vs. 88 wRC+ against righties)
The Phillies will likely let Bohm walk and could turn to top prospect Aidan Miller to play third base next season. Bohm slashed .249/.315/.383 with 15 homers and 88 RBI in 155 games during the 2026 season.
Roster Overhaul: Other Notable Phillies Headed for the Open Market
Other notable Phillies free agents include super utility man Edmundo Sosa and left-handed relief pitcher José Alvarado.
The team has four other free agents who are likely to play elsewhere: Adolis Garcia, Brooks Raley, Nestor Cortes, and Garrett Stubbs.
Of this group, the Phillies could look to bring Soa back, who can play multiple positions and has hit left-handed pitching well during his time in Philadelphia.
