NEWARK — If Saturday's overtime stunner wasn't enough of a crushing blow to the Flyers, they'll have to deal without arguably their most valuable defenseman for about a week.

The club said that Michael Del Zotto will miss seven to 10 days with what they're calling an "upper-body injury." It's unclear when exactly the injury occurred. In the first period of Saturday's overtime loss to Boston, Del Zotto blocked a Dennis Seidenberg slapshot with his right foot and missed half the period, but returned for the second stanza.

Del Zotto was on the ice for the game-winner, too. Brad Marchand's shot went off his right heel as he went sprawling to block the shot and instead it went over Steve Mason's glove.

In his first season with the Flyers, Del Zotto had been especially productive as of late. He's played more than 23 minutes per game in nine of the last 14 contests. Coach Craig Berube has relied on him heavily recently and will now have to give those minutes to someone else. It's unlikely that Brandon Manning, called up from the Phantoms, gets a great deal of those minutes.
