The job became open when Chris Sacco, who coached the Greyhounds the last five years, stepped down to become the head coach at Absegami. Pleasantville was 27-25 under Sacco overall but 23-9 over the last three years.

Pleasantville’s football program is in a 14-day quarantine right now after a player tested positive for the COVID-19 virus last week. The school is in the process of testing its remaining players and cheerleaders.

And they now are looking for a new coach.

“Because this happened so late,” said PHS athletics director Stephen Townsend, “we are talking with the assistant coaches we had hired. We are also opening up the job for outside applicants, as well, but they have to respond quickly.”

Pleasantville’s season is scheduled to begin on Oct. 2 with the first of four straight challenging games – Cedar Creek, St. Joseph, Mainland and Holy Spirit.
