Ocean City, NJ Pitcher Signs with St. John's University

Today is National Signing Day, where athletes all over South Jersey will be making their decisions today on where they will continue their athletic careers.

Ocean City high school senior, Tommy Finnegan has made his decision and will be heading to St. John's University in Jamaica, New York to play baseball.

The Red Raider is also a key member of the Ocean City basketball team, scoring 13.3 points, adding 1.3 blocks per game as a junior, but will be continuing his career on the baseball diamond.

The 6-7 245-pound pitcher previously made verbal commitments to Kentucky and Vanderbilt but made it official that he will be a member of the Red Storm on National Signing Day.

Finnegan, like Trevor Cohen of Holy Spirit, who signed to play with Rutgers on National Signing Day, has been a big name on the local baseball scene since he was 13-years old. Both played for me as members of the Atlantic Shore Babe Ruth 13-year old team that made it all the way to the Babe Ruth World Series in Mountain Home, Arkansas in 2017.

In 2018, Finnegan was a member of the 14-year old Atlantic Shore team that won a World Series title.

In high school, he has been a key member of the Red Raiders basketball team and has been a fixture on the mound and in the middle of the lineup for the Ocean City baseball team.

Finnegan was on the mound in Ocean City's big win over Colts Neck last season, which helped the Red Raiders advance on to win their first state title in school history.
