PFF ranks Philadelphia Eagles’ Dallas Goedert a top-10 NFL tight end
Will this be the season Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert has his breakout season?
Goedert has been bothered by injuries and has yet to have that big breakout season. He was on his way to a 1,000-yard season in 2022, before an injury forced him to miss four games.
Entering the 2023 season, Pro Football Focus ranks Goedert sixth among the top 10 tight ends in the NFL, using stats from the 2023 season, PFF ranked the top 32 starters for each position.
Very little went well for the Eagles in 2023. They were let down by injuries, an aging defense and struggles at coordinator, as Jalen Hurts and the offense looked broken throughout the season. Goedert was not immune to the struggles, as he himself battled injuries and missed three games.
Still, the six-year pro has earned an 86.1 overall grade over the past three years, fourth among all players at the position.
Goedert's numbers were down last season, from his best season back in 2021. Last year he had 59 catches for 592 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games, down from 2021 when he had 56 catches for 830 yards and four scores in 15 games.
The biggest difference in the numbers is the yards per catch. Last season, Goedert only averaged 10.0 yards per catch, while in 2021 he was more of a big play threat, getting 14.8 yards per catch.
It will be interesting to see how much of a role he will have with Kellen Moore now running the offense. Moore has a history of getting his tight ends involved in the offense, and he could even have Goedert lineup in the slot this season, which could mean a big year for him in 2024.
