Flyers vs. Sabres Preview: Opportunity Knocks
As the Flyers prepare for the next game of a four-game road trip on Thursday night, they find themselves sitting in third place in the Metropolitan Division. Not exactly where everyone thought they would be at the start of the season, right?
With four games left until the NHL's holiday break and seven games left in December, there is an opportunity in front of the Flyers to further solidify their place in the playoff discussion. It starts with a matchup against the last-place team in the Eastern Conference, the Buffalo Sabres, which have undergone significant management changes this week.
Game time is at 7:30 p.m.
Trevor Zegras has been red hot for the Flyers. Zegras has points in five straight games and nine of the last 10, including three multi-point games in that time. He has goals in four consecutive games and seven in his previous 10 games.
Rasmus Dahlin had a four-game points streak snapped in his last game on Sunday, but was piling up points before then. Dahlin had only two goals but added six assists for eight points in a four-game span after being held off the scoresheet and getting a match penalty against the Flyers on Dec. 3.
Sam Ersson gets the start for the Flyers. Ersson made 18 saves on 21 shots in a shootout loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in his last start on Saturday. He made 27 saves on 29 shots in a win over Buffalo on Dec. 3.
Alex Lyon gets the start for Buffalo. Lyon made 23 saves on 24 shots in a win over Seattle on Sunday. He is on a personal three-game winning streak entering Thursday.
