Phillies’ Rob Thomson Finishes 5th for NL Manager of the Year Voting
Philadelphia Phillies skipper Rob Thomson finished fifth in the voting for 2024 National League Manager of the Year, the BBWAA announced on Tuesday.
Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy won the award after leading the Brewers to an NL Central title with a 93-69 record. Cleveland’s Stephen Vogt was the American League winner, winning the AL Central with 92 wins.
Thomson received one first-place vote for five total points from 30 BBWAA ballots.
Thomson’s Phillies got off to a tremendous start during the first half of the season, but struggled in the second half, before getting knocked out in the Divisional round of the NL playoffs. Philadelphia was 62-34 during the first half of the season, but just 33-33 over the final 66 games.
The Phillies finished with 95 wins this season, five more than 2023 but advanced to the National League Championship Series a year ago.
After the season, Thomson received a contract extension through the 2026 season, after leading the team to their sixth-most wins in franchise history, and highest number of games won since 2011 — when the team won 102 games. His .575 winning percentage is the best among all skippers in Phillies history. Overall Thomson has a career mark of 250-185 and has led the Phillies to the postseason in all three seasons at the helm, since taking over for Joe Girardi on June 3, 2022.
