Phillies Set to Non-Tender Outfielder Austin Hays
The Philadelphia Phillies have informed outfielder Austin Hays that he will be non-tendered by the team according to MLB reporter Jon Heyman from MLB Network and the NY Post.
Hays was acquired by the Phillies ahead of the Major League Baseball trade deadline, in exchange for Seranthony Domínguez and Cristian Pache.
At the time of the trade, Hays was hitting .255 with three home runs and 14 RBI in 63 games, with much better splits against left-handed pitching. However, in Philadelphia, Hays was injured for much of his time and made very impact after the deal.
they were hoping at the very least he could split time with Brandon Marsh in leftfield, or even play every day to allow Marsh to take time in center field with Johan Rojas.
However, he appeared in just 22 games, hitting .256 with two home runs and six RBI, missing time with a kidney infection and a sore back late in the year. He did return for the National League Division Series against the New York Mets but made no impact.
Hays was an All-Star in 2023 with Baltimore, but injuries hampered him in 2024.
The Phillies will continue to look for a right-handed platoon option to pair with Brandon Marsh, unless of course, they move Marsh, as they look to shake up their line-up.
Two names that Heyman says could be moved by the Phillies this offseason include, Nick Castellanos and Alec Bohm.

Part of a Philly shakeup?
Heyman listed nine potential names that could be traded this offseason with those two Phillies players being listed as part of a "shakeup" for the team.
