Phillies Sign Veteran Pitcher Joe Ross to One-Year Deal
The Philadelphia Phillies continue to add to their pitching, adding veteran Joe Ross on a one-year deal, according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic.
The 31-year-old righty had a solid 2024 season with a 3.77 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 66 strikeouts in 74 innings (25 appearances, 10 starts) for the Brewers.
Ross missed the 2002 and 2023 seasons after undergoing two Tommy John surgeries.
Ross did his best work out of the Brewers bullpen in 2024 making 15 relief appearances, posting a 1.67 ERA (5 ER, 27.0 IP) with 27 strikeouts while limiting opposing batters to a .220 batting average (22-100).
His 1.67 ERA out of the bullpen last season ranked sixth among major league relievers.
He should fill a nice role in the Phillies bullpen and provide depth for the starting rotation if there is an injury during the season. As a starter with Washington, Ross was 5-9 with a 4.17 ERA in 2021.
Overall, he has combined for a 4.19 ERA with 469 strikeouts on 571.1 innings pitched.
