If the Phillies want to make a splash ahead of Tuesday's July 30 trade deadline, there is one to make.

Zachary D. Remer of Bleacher Report thinks the Phillies could be one of the teams that make a big splash at the trade deadline to obtain Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, who is currently the favorite to win the American League Cy Young Award.

Skubal is 11-3 with a 2.34 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and has 146 strikeouts in 123 innings this season.

Remer looks at Phillies President Dave Dombrowski's past as a reason he might make a move of this magnitude.

The Phillies acquiring Skubal would be the ultimate case of president of baseball operations David Dombrowski leaving nothing to chance. He loves star players, and adding another one to this roster would only make the Phillies even more of a favorite to win it all.

Landing Skubal would give the Phillies a legitimate top of the rotation arm to pair with their three All-Star starters,  Zack Wheeler, Ranger Suarez and Chritopher Sanchez, plus veteran Aaron Nola.

There have been recent reports the Phillies are looking at starting pitching, including Garrett Crochet and Jack Flaherty, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

What would it take to acquire Skubal?

This is where the Phillies and Dombrowski would really have to think about a move of this magnitude.

The proposed package as the Phillies dealing their Top 3 prospects in exchange for Skubal.

Trade Proposal: Philadelphia Phillies get LHP Tarik Skubal; Detroit Tigers get OF Justin Crawford (Phillies No. 1, MLB No. 31), RHP Andrew Painter (Phillies No. 2, MLB No. 34), 3B Aidan Miller (Phillies No. 3, MLB No. 42)

Skubal is 27-years old and would be a fit at the top of the Phillies rotation, essentially replacing Painter in that role.  With Wheeler, Nola, and Sanchez all signed to extensions, Skubal would fit right in.

The big questions would be, are the Phillies willing to give Crawford and Miller up in the deal. Both players are Top 50 MLB prospects, and are No. 1 and 3 respectively in the Phillies system.

Does Skubal put the Phillies over the top?  Is this price to much to give up?

The MLB Trade Deadline in July 30.
