South Jersey Lifeguard Championships kickoff Weekend with Eagles and Phillies in Action

This summer is flying by, and the proof is eye-opening: The Eagles start their preseason schedule on Saturday night in Baltimore - The much-anticipated Sixers schedule was released in full on Thursday - the Phillies are fighting for the last wild card playoff spot.

The biggest reminder that the summer is almost over is the historic 107th South Jersey Lifeguard Championships!  This year, the Lifeguard Championships are hosted in Avalon with a 6:30pm start on the 35th street beach. Beach Patrols from Cape May Point to Brigantine compete for Lifeguard supremacy.

97.3 FM ESPN Radio South Jersey will be broadcasting the event live from 6-8pm. Join Billy Schweim, Dan Adams, Erich Wolf Jack Brooks, and Tom McCann as they bring you all the action on the radio, along with on The Locker Room with Billy Schweim Youtube.

The Eagles start the 2026 preseason on Saturday night in Baltimore against the Ravens with a 7pm Kickoff. Listen to Mike & Merril call all the action on 97.3 FM ESPN Radio South Jersey. Just hearing their voices will remind you that summer is waning. We won’t see any of the starters during the first preseason game, but the boys are back on the gridiron!!

The Phillies find themselves nine games behind the Braves in the National League East, and currently holding the final wildcard spot for the playoffs. The Diamondbacks, Marlins, and Cardinals are all on their tails. The Phillies have several concerns remaining about the lack of consistent hitting, and their bullpen still hasn’t improved. They call this the “Dog Days” of summer for a reason. Let’s see if the Phillies can outlast the competition.

This Saturday, if come down to the 97.3 FM ESPN studios, Kilowatt Coffee will have its coffee truck in the parking lot, and they will give a free coffee to the first five customers to mention they heard about it from The Locker Room with Bily Schweim!!!!  We will cover all the topics this weekend!

Saturday’s show is Producer Nick Earnshaw's last show with us on the weekends.  Nick is moving on to new opportunities, and we will give him the proper send off!  Plus it’s the return of Former Kansas City Chiefs Wide Receiver Dave Klemic with us for football season, and Erin Ewing joins us in studio as well. We’ll kick off the show with Kilowatt Coffee truck getting us caffeinated and activated before the show; The Owner of Kilowatt Coffee, the Falcones, will joins us during the first half hour.  At 10:30, we will introduce the Brand new “Philly Eagles Fans Anthem”. Award-winning Producer and Composer Charles Wallert will debut the New song on our show!!  In Hour Two, it’s our Beach Patrol report with Jack Brooks brought to you by McCann Realtors of Sea Isle and the OCBP Lifeguard Alumni Association. This week we will have the results, and interviews from the South Jersey Lifeguard Championships. 

On Sunday’s show, Producer Alex Beradis and Erin Ewing join me in the studio. We will talk Phillies baseball and go On the Mound” with former Phillies Pitcher Tommy Greene brought to you by Blitz’s Market of Ocean City. Tommy gives his analysis of the Phillies week and previews Sunday’s game.  In Hour Two,  Mr. Negadelphia P.J. Corda checks in with his thoughts on the Philly Sports scene, brought to you by the Vassar pool service.
