South Jersey Lifeguard Championships Postponed Due to Tropical Storm Debbie
Tropical Storm Debbie has already caused some weather issues with South Jersey, dumping plenty of rain in the area on Wednesday and has caused the South Jersey Lifeguard Championships to move from Friday to Monday.
The event will now take place in Brigantine for the first time since 1980 on 17th Street at 6:30 p.m. Brigantine is the host of winning the 2023 event in Margate. The team that wins the South Jersey's gets to host the event the following summer.
Brigantine captain Kip Emig says they will have food trucks and will have a live video of the race on the beach so everyone can see the event.
The South Jersey's include the 15 different Lifeguard patrols that span from Brigantine down to Cape May.
The events include the singles and double row, and the half-mile swim.
Last year Brigantine won the event ahead of Margate, Longport and Atlantic City, who finished fourth.
97.3 ESPN has carried the South Jersey Lifeguard championship and other Lifeguard races events with Locker Room host Billy Schweim and area Lifeguard alumni, including former Longport chief Dan Adams, former Ocean City Beach Patrol captain Jack Brooks and former OC lieutenant John McShane providing commentary.
