Emil Andrae made the move to North America last season, signing an ELC with the Flyers in March. Now, he wants to make his next move and make the NHL roster out of camp.
The Flyers chose to turn to an area they feel is the foundation of success in the NHL: defense. They chose the upside of a budding defensive prospect in Oliver Bonk, in hopes that it will come to fruition with development.
Reports surfaced this week that the Flyers could start to explore the possibility of a trade involving Ivan Provorov, first discussed on the 32 Thoughts Podcast with Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek.
Team USA – and Flyers prospects Cam York and Bobby Brink – held off a rally by Slovakia to claim a 5-2 win. Team Sweden – and Flyers prospect Emil Andrae – were eliminated on a last-minute goal in a 3-2 defeat to Finland. Team Canada defeated Czech Republic and Russia defeated Germany to round out the final four teams of the tournament.
The World Junior Championships has closed out group play and moved into the tournament portion with the Quarterfinals taking place on Saturday with four games on the schedule. All three Flyers prospects remain in the tournament, set for their own matchups on Saturday.
Both the USA – with Flyers prospects Cam York and Bobby Brink on the roster – and Sweden – with Emil Andrae on the roster – are playing in Group B. Through Monday, Sweden sits atop the standings in the Group, with two wins in two games. The US is in a three-way tie with Russia and Czech Republic with one win and one regulation loss.
2019 first-round pick Cam York and 2019 second-round pick Bobby Brink will play for Team USA and 2020 second-round pick Emil Andrae will be on Team Sweden’s roster.
