The Flyers are back on the road and back in Columbus looking to stop the bleeding, this time to start a three-game road trip on Tuesday night against the Blue Jackets.
The Flyers were winning games early in the season behind great goaltending and timely goals. Now they are losing games because the bad habits within their game and the lack of scoring talent is catching up to them in a hurry.
On Thursday night, the Flyers hit the road to face another team at the bottom of the standings and locked into a lengthy losing streak. The Columbus Blue Jackets have lost five straight games dating back to Oct. 23, including both games in their trip to Finland last weekend.
On Wednesday, you saw that the current regime is incapable of handling a rebuild. They insisted upon an aggressive retool for a fast fix, not the necessary rebuild needed. Now it’s time to start that rebuild anyway, but focus on the front office that has so clearly set the Flyers back.
The Flyers tried to move cap space, but couldn't clear enough for Johnny Gaudreau to sign with his hometown team. The Flyers instead added forward Nicolas Deslauriers and brought back defenseman Justin Braun.
The Flyers will buy out forward Oskar Lindblom, who was set to enter the final year of a three-year deal in the 2022-23 season, placing him on conditional waivers on Tuesday afternoon. His current cap hit was $3 million and the buyout saves the Flyers $3.33 million toward the cap.
