The Flyers chose to turn to an area they feel is the foundation of success in the NHL: defense. They chose the upside of a budding defensive prospect in Oliver Bonk, in hopes that it will come to fruition with development.
After another case of organizational malpractice at the trade deadline, the choice is in the hands of the Flyers highest-appointed figures. You can accept this reality of being the laughing stock of the NHL and accept the growing distance between yourself and as loyal a fanbase as there is in sports or you can finally do something about it. Chuck Fletcher's already underwhelming trade deadline week turned into a disastrous deadline day. The Flyers traded Zack MacEwen and Patrick Brown, but had a deal with James van Riemsdyk fall through while acquiring Brendan Lemieux and two late-round draft picks.
