Tippett, Michkov Lead Flyers Past Oilers
In their return from a two-week break, the Flyers had plenty of reinforcements in the lineup. Some were returning from injuries. Others were just returning more refreshed.
Owen Tippett scored twice in his return to the lineup, and Matvei Michkov had three points as the Flyers secured a 6-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday afternoon at Wells Fargo Center.
The Flyers got off to a fast start, out-shooting the Oilers, 6-1, and getting the first goal just 2:07 into the game. Michkov picked up his own rebound for his 17th goal of the season.
The Oilers picked up the play from there, out-shooting the Flyers for the rest of the period, 7-3. They tied the game at 7:06, as John Klingberg picked up a rebound for his first goal of the season.
At 9:31, the Oilers got the lead. It was Leon Draisaitl scoring his 41st goal of the season off a nice pass from Matt Savoie to make it 2-1.
Through 20 minutes, shots were 9-8 Flyers.
The Flyers got the game tied at 1:45 of the second. Tippett won a race for the puck and roofed a backhander to tie things up with his 15th goal of the season.
The Flyers took the lead back at 7:13. Michkov made a great pass to Sean Couturier for his 200th career goal, making it a 3-2 game.
The lead was short-lived, as Mattias Ekholm scored at 8:34 to tie things back up at three.
The Flyers went back in front at 12:26. Tippett scored his second of the game and 16th of the season, finishing off a great pass from Michkov to make it 4-3.
Just over three minutes later, the Flyers were on the first power play of the game and added to the lead. Andrei Kuzmenko scored his first goal as a Flyer, redirecting a pass from Travis Konecny to make it 5-3.
Through two periods, shots were 22-15 Flyers.
The Flyers limited the Oilers to just two shots in the third period. With 2:59 remaining, Rasmus Ristolainen finished things off with an empty-net goal, his third of the season.
Sam Ersson made 15 saves on 18 shots in the win. Stuart Skinner made 26 saves on 31 shots in the loss.
Michkov and Couturier each had three points. Ristolainen and Tippett each had two points. Draisaitl and Klingberg each had two points for the Oilers.
