As we head into the Spring sports season, we have a new batch of local student-athletes this week who have proven themselves worthy.

Deirdre Lenzsch, Weightlifting, Mainland - The sophomore continues her road to Olympic contention. Lenzsch is competing in the Youth World Weightlifting Championships, which began in Uzbekistan. She is among the nation's top-ranked lifters.

Lindsey Gaines, Softball, Cumberland - She drove in six runs, including a home run and a double. Gaines' performance propelled the team to a 13-2 victory over Deptford.

Gary Albano, Lacrosse, Absegami - He punctuated a furious rally against Lower Cape May. Albano netted the game-winning goal in a 7-6 win after the Braves trailed 4-1 early in the matchup.

Rachel Rivera, Softball, Millville - She connected on hits in all three of her plate appearances in an 11-2 win over Holy Spirit, including a double and a home run. Rivera scored three runs.

Connor Houghton, Lacrosse, Egg Harbor TownshipLed the Eagles to a 14-2 victory over Mainland in their first game of the season by scoring 5 goals and adding 1 assist.
