Free Agent Signings Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith are major additions to a team that was 28th in the NFL last season in Touchdown Passes with 16 total, only Eight of those were caught by Wide Receivers. Jeffery is 10th among Active NFL Receivers in Yards Per Game with 72.2 while catching 26 Career Touchdown Passes. Meanwhile Smith is 2nd among Active NFL Receivers in Yards Per Reception with 17.0 while tallying 37 Career Touchdown Catches.
Turron Davenport of USA Today Eagles Wire joined The Sports Bash on Tuesday and spoke about the Eagles two offseason additions:
"With Torrey Smith, you're getting a guy that can line up on the outside and he's going to push safeties back and force coordinators to use that bracket coverage over top. Hes not a guy that's going to get you 60 catches or 900 yards; He's the guy that's going to be effective for you. He's also a veteran, a really good personality. He's a guy the younger guys can learn from as far as eye position and looking the football. He's great for Algolor (because Smith) went through the same thing Algolor went through as far as becoming more consistent catcher with the football. The thing I liked the most about Alshon...he's someone that as long as the ball is in his area he's going to come down with it . That's what you gave to excited for. I talked to Carson about it, I talked to Flip about it too. They're going to throw to Alshon even if he's covered. Whether it be a back shoulder fade or whether you throw it up and he gets the rebound. One way or another they're go into give him an opportunity."
