Wildwood’s Frank Vogel Hired to be New Lakers Coach
The Los Angelas Lakers on Saturday hired Wildwood alum Frank Vogel as their new head coach to replace the fired Luke Walton.
The deal is for three years, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, and Jason Kidd will join the staff as Vogel's top assistant per the report.
According to Woj, Vogel made a "strong impression" on the Lakers in his interview, and they hired the former Pacers and Magic head man.
Vogel coached the Pacers for six seasons, making the playoffs five times, before moving on to the Magic for two seasons. Before settling on Vogel, the Lakers had expressed interest in Sixers assistant Monty Williams, having interviewed him along with former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Ty Lue.
Vogel went 304-291 (.511) from 2010-18, making the playoffs five times going 31-30 in 61 playoff games.
The Wildwood graduate will now will take over a Lakers franchise with LeBron James, who he battled in the playoffs when he was the head coach in Indiana and James was with the Heat.
