Report: Eagles Interested in Eric Winston
According to the Philadelphia Daily News, the Eagles and Texans were the first two teams to reach out to free agent right tackle Eric Winston.
Winston just signed a four-year, $22 million contract last offseason with the Chiefs and graded out as top-nine right tackle in Pro Football Focus’ 2012 ratings. Winston is coming of an injury, but assured the Chiefs that he will participate in OTAs after undergoing post-season ankle surgery.
Winston was one of the NFL’s premier run-blocking right tackles while playing in Houston and his run blocking success could be what triggered the Eagles interest. The thinking is he could slide right in as a starter and allow Todd Herremans to slide back and hopefully solidify the problematic right guard spot. Winston is also very familiar with the Texans’ zone-blocking scheme after spending the first six years of his career there.
