How was the list formed?

To determine the most expensive zip codes in the U.S. in 2024, we looked at residential transactions closed between January 1, 2024, and September 30, 2024, taking into account condo, co-op, and single- and two-family home sales, but excluding all multiparcel deals.

Two Cape May County towns made the list?

First up, coming in at No. 70 overall was Stone Harbor

Stone Harbor, a coveted beach town located along the Jersey Shore, secured the 70th spot with a median home price of $2.2 million.

Stone Harbor did not appear on the list in 2023.

At No. 41 on the list was Avalon

The Jersey Shore strikes yet again, adding Avalon to the list which rose to 41st place in the U.S. this year, with its median home price reaching $2.75 million, blowing up from $2.29 million in 2023.

This was the fourth year in a row that Avalon appeared on the list, coming in at No. 56 last year, No. 82 in 2022, and No. 92 in 2021.

The other four New Jersey zip codes on the list were all located in North Jersey with Alpine (24) from Bergan County, Deal (32) in Monmouth County, Mantoloking (59) in Ocean County, and Short Hills (93) from Essex County appearing on the list.

Atherton, CA was No. 1 on the list with a median sale price of $7,900,000.
