While everyone loves to live at the Jersey Shore or have a beach house at one of New Jersey's Shore Towns, there is one major negative about living near the beach.

The close proximity to the ocean creates an overlap of salty air with humidity, which results in corrosion and rust. Over time, properties have to be either cleaned up or structures must be replaced for safety reasons.

One obvious, but sometimes overlooked, example of this issue are what happens to playgrounds. You can see the rust and corrosion become worse if not handled early on, making the equipment unsafe for children.

This South Jersey Shore Town Builds New Playgrounds

Located off Garden State Parkway Exit 10, the City of Stone Harbor made a major decision back in 2024 to address the safety of their playgrounds. The Coastal Community removed all equipment from the 97th Street and 82nd Street playgrounds, and they have spent the last 20 months rebuilding both from the ground up.

Thanks to an open spaces grant from Cape May County, the 97th Street Playground was rebuilt and finished the first stages of the project in 2025. There was a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new playground near downtown Stone Harbor on June 6th.

In March 2026, Stone Harbor Officials approved the contract for the construction of a new Jake's Law Playground. New Jersey gives municipalities incentives to build all-inclusive playgrounds, and Stone Harbor received a $750,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to build the new playground at 82nd Street and 2nd Avenue.

According to local news outlets, the new all-inclusive playground at 82nd Street is expected to have its official debut and ribbon-cutting ceremony later this month in Stone Harbor.
