When I was younger, I grew up in a family where baseball was the number one sport, and everyone loved going to Philadelphia Phillies games. Everyone I knew when I was younger were diehard Phillies Baseball fans.

But as I got older, baseball became less exciting compared to football, basketball, and hockey. The Flyers mid-90s playoff runs, the 76ers drafting Allen Iverson, and the Eagles' return to relevance after Jeffrey Lurie purchased the team made the other sports more exciting.

Of course, it doesn't help that in the years after the beloved 1993 Phillies team, the organization couldn't recapture the same magic. Players such as Rico Brogna, Bobby Abreu, Randy Wolf, and Robert Person were not good enough to elevate the Phillies back into the playoff contenders tier for a decade plus.

All Philadelphia Sports fans fell back in love with the Phillies with the 2006-2011 teams led by Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, and Cole Hamels. But the most recent run of playoff teams (2022-2025) don't have the same magic or endearment that past teams carried with their core players.

The Phillies are just not "fun" in 2026, and instead function as relics of what "could have been" with the 2023 team

Ever since the Phillies choked in the National League Championship Series, and allowed the Arizona Diamondbacks to get to the World Series, every season feels more disapointing and frustrating than the last. In September, the Phillies are 8-10, and those 21 wins in August now feel like false hope.

So here are my top four reasons why I can't wait for the Phillies season to be over:

1. Don't have to be tortured by watching Trea Turner play anymore
Last year's National League Batting Champion has 142 Strikeouts and .241 Batting Average in 151 games so far this year. His 21 Fielding Errors are tied for the most among MLB Shortstops, and his at-bats continue to be cringeworthy to watch. The Phillies gave this guy a $300 million contract, and he has played more like a guy worth a third of that money.

2. No more dividing my attention between Phillies and Football
We only get four months of regular season football between High School, College, and NFL, but Philadelphia sports fans have to waste part of our weekends paying attention to a Phillies team that gets no one excited to watch. Sure there are some fun moments during some games, but not enough to make the Phillies "must-see" television. Meanwhile, we got Phillies vs Mets on at the same time this weekend as the Eagles game, and the weekend before we were so lucky to see Phillies get blasted by the Atlanta Braves while Ohio State vs Texas was playing an epic game.

3. LeBron Jamesand the new look 76ers
Arguably one of the biggest free agent additions for Philadelphia Sports in decades, LeBron James is a megastar, and no Sixers fan in their right mind wants to miss any of his games. The 76ers also added 2024 NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown this offseason, and what sports fans isn't curious about the Sixers vs Celtics preseason games on October 10th and October 16th. If the Phillies get lucky for a deep postseason run, we will be getting our hopes up for a team that has disapointed us so many times instead of being excited for the new-look 76ers.

4. Flyers are finally good again
After a five year playoff drought, the Orange and Black made it back to the playoffs last year with a young and resilient team. Flyers fans are excited to see Porter Martone for an entire season, along with what year two looks like for Forward Trevor Zegras and Goaltender Dan Vladar. But opening night for the regular season is September 30th, which is scheduled to be game two of the National League Wild Card series. In fact, the Flyers first three games of the season run parallel with National League playoff games. Because we all are looking forward to seeing the Phillies lose another postseason game 3-1 because the bullpen can't hold a leage handed to them by Zack Wheeler or Cristopher Sanchez.

Call me a "Negative Nancy" or a pessimist, but I am tired of being disappointed and underwhelmed by the Phillies and President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski's "Good Ball Club".
