ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Phillies were the "mystery team" involved in talks for A.J. Burnett.

The Phillies would have had to clear Joe Blanton (and his $8.5 million salary for this season) in order to make a deal work, so it was likely a long shot.
Burnett ended up getting traded to the Pirates, saving Phillies fans from having to watch Burnett pitch every five days.
Through people forget that Burnett and Roy Halladay pitched together while the two were in Toronto, where Burnett was 38-26 with a 3.94 ERA with a WHIP 1.284 pitching for the Blue Jays.
