Brigantine native Brett Kennedy, a pitcher, will be heading to spring training next week with the San Diego Padres.

Kennedy, 23, has been moving up through the Padres farm teams since being drafted in 2015 out of Fordham University. Last year, he had a great season, pitching for the Padres' Double A team in San Antonio. His record on the mound was 13-7 with a 3.70 ERA.

Kennedy isn't expected to make the big league club out of spring training, but, according to the internet site SB Nation Gas Lamp Ball, he could make his way to the Padres' roster mid-season: "A solid start to the season may entice the Padres to give Kennedy a shot should an opportunity open mid-season."

Kennedy is a 2012 graduate of Atlantic City High School.
