South Jersey's Topo Gigio Pizza Impresses Barstool's Dave Portnoy

The world's most popular pizza reviewer, Dave Portnoy, from Barstool Sports, made a stop in South Jersey this week, reviewing a pizza from Topo Gigio Pizza in Bellmawr.

Portnoy is famous for his 'One Bite, Everybody Knows the Rules' phrase, in which he stops in local pizza shops around the county, takes a bite (or 10), then fives a score.

He has been to numerous South Jersey places including Tony's Baltimore Grill, Prep's Pizzeria and Manco & Manco's in Ocean City, Mack's Pizza and Sorrento II Pizzeria and Restaurant in Wildwood, Carluccio's in Northfield, Berandi Brothers Pizza, Uncle Oogie's and Phil's Famous Pizzeria in Sea Isle, Steak 'Em Up and Sam's Pizza in North Wildwood to name a few.

This time he was reviewing a spot in Camden County during a recent visit to Philadelphia, where he reviewed plenty of pizzas in the City of Brotherly Love.

Topo Gigio, located at 984 Creek Road Bellmawr has been in business for 42 years according to owner John, who seemed to be a favorite of Portnoy.

“I like this guy in there. So I hand him a 100 and he goes Hoo-ah!”, Portnoy laughed. "I liked that reaction in there."

(The Hoo-ah reference is from Al Pacino in the movie Scent of a Woman)

He described the pizza as a "football pizza".

"You order this on a Sunday at two o'clock, you don't even think twice," Portnoy added.

The score was 7.5, which is a solid score on the Potrnoy scale, so it looks like I will be taking a ride to Bellmawr soon.
