The Sweet Sixteen separates the contenders from the pretenders, as March Madness gears up for its second weekend where expectant teams gather for the regional finals. After the fantastic drama delivered over the opening weekend, not to mention a few big upsets, ResortsCasino.com previews the latest round of the Big Dance.

Tennessee v Purdue
No.2 Tennessee face No.3 Purdue in a top match-up for a relatively early stage of the competition. The Volunteers navigated the upset-minded Iowa Hawkeyes in the last round, while Purdue dispatched reigning champions Villanova off the back of Carsen Edwards’ 42 points. Tennessee are yet to hit their full potential in the tournament so far, while Purdue look to be the team to beat in the South region.

The Vols and the Boilermakers can both score points in a hurry, and the market is incredibly close, with just a point spread. This is set to be a titanic tussle until the final buzzer.

Look for: A tight game with a clutch play to win it at the buzzer.

Virginia v Oregon
No.1 Virginia have a tough task in the Sweet Sixteen, taking on the lowest seeded team left, No.12 Oregon. The Ducks dispatched Wisconsin in their first round game, then took down fellow underdog UC Irvine in the second round. Virginia have professionally dealt with their challenges so far, but Oregon are a difficult proposition, with a very good defence. Against Virginia’s methodical, calculated offence, the Ducks could easily hang around and make this game interesting.

The Ducks have a real shot at history if they beat the Cavaliers, but March is a time for Madness.

Look for: A defensive battle with upset potential

UNC v Auburn
Auburn were the only five seed to win their first round matchup, after which they blew away Kansas in the second round. UNC have made light work of both Iona and Washington, but the SEC champs are a whole new level of opponent. The Midwest region is easily the most competitive on paper, and this should be a great game between two sides that score lots of points very quickly.

The over/under for this game sits at a very high 162, but even that might be a low estimate.

Look for: Plenty of points between two star-studded squads
