Cole Hamels re-signs!

The news came down early this morning that the Phillies and Cole Hamels had agreed on a 6-year $144M extension to remain with the club until he's 32.  The deal was later announced at a press conference prior to this afternoon's game and it includes a 7th year vesting option, if Hamels achieves certain stipulations.  He will make $24M in 2019 with that option.  Is it too much money?  Mike and Todd debate the Cole Hamels contract extension:

Bob Nightengale

Bob Nightengale, National Baseball Writer for the USA Today called in and gave us his opinions on the Cole Hamels contract extension.  Nightengale said the Phillies were never serious about trading Hamels and negotiations really picked up around July 4th when the team realized time was of the essence before July 31st.  Nightengale also believes the Phillies will make the playoffs if they keep playing at a high level.  Bob Nightengale covers MLB for the USA Today.

Larry Bowa

The very first manager for Cole Hamels in a Phillies uniform called in at 2:45 to talk about the contract extension.  Bowa told us a story about the very first thing he did with Cole Hamels when he joined the team back in 2006.  Bowa said simply: "Hamels is worth it and when you look around the majors, guys like him are getting contracts like that."  Larry Bowa spent 15 years in MLB as a player and was a 1980 World Series Champion.

John Boggs, Hamels agent

I actually did some work today and was able to track down Cole Hamels agent, John Boggs.  Boggs has been at this since the very start of negotiations and told Mike and Todd that when the Phillies went to a 6-year length in contract, "thats when we knew they were serious."  Boggs also said there is a value on lefties in this league, and when it comes to an elite lefty or righty, most teams will choose the left-hander.

The next PA Announcer for the 76ers is...Mike or Todd?

The Philadelphia Sixers CEO Adam Aron sent out a tweet last night saying the team is currently on the search for a new Public Address Announcer and try-outs for EXPERIENCED broadcasters ONLY will be in September.  We are currently conducting a poll on our website for the best audition: Mike Gill or Todd Ranck. So with that in mind, Mike and Todd held their own auditions where the two went toe-to-toe announcing your 76ers starting lineup.  Hilarity ensued:
