With Goedert out, the team relied on Johnny Mundt, who is mainly a blocking tight end, who added two catches for just eight yards. EJ Jenkins is also on the Eagles' 53-man roster and could be an option to replace Goedert.
Rookie second-round pick Eli Stowers, along with veteran tight end Grant Calcaterra, are on the injured list, and they signed Josiah Degura to the practice squad.
Could a Reunion with Zach Ertz Be on the Horizon?
One name that came up during training camp was former Eagle Zach Ertz, who is still a free agent.
Here is what Howie Roseman said about Ertz back on August 31.
(Update: According to a report by ESPNs Adam Schefter, the Eagles will, in fact, bring back Zach Ertz, who is signing with the Eagles' practice squad, per sources.)
"First, I'd say what an unbelievable player, what an unbelievable person, tremendous respect for him. At the same time, love what we have going in our tight end room, too. I would say, have talked to Zach over a period of time, obviously rehabbing his ACL and the relationship, just like a lot of our former players who've been here. But like anything else, wouldn't get into any conversations about anything other than from a big picture perspective. In my opinion, one of the greatest tight ends to play the game and just tremendous respect for him, and also excited about the tight ends that we have here."
Ertz spent last season in Washington, where he caught 50 passes for 504 yards and four touchdowns last season.
