Darius Slay Lands with New Team After Release from Steelers
Eagles Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio Addresses the Question
When asked on Wednesday on the possibility the team could bring Slay back, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said: "That's a hot question for Howie [Roseman] there."
The 34-year-old signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency during the offseason, but after being a healthy inactive, the two sides parted ways.
The Slay-Eagles Connection: What's the Mutual Interest?
Slay had a solid season for Philadelphia last season, breaking up 13 passes and forcing a fumble, and spent five seasons with the team after coming over from the Detroit Lions before the 2020 season.
During his time in Philly, Slay made three Pro Bowls, nine interceptions, and 56 pass breakups in 74 games with the Eagles.
The Current Eagles Cornerback Situation
So could he help the Eagles in 2025? According to some, Slay just wasn't a fit in Mike Tomlin's defense, but could be an upgrade over the Eagles' current situation with Adoree Jackson, Jakorian Bennett, and Kelee Ringo playing opposite Quinyon Mitchell.
As for that group of guys, Fangio indicated that he is most comfortable with Jackson at this time.
"Yeah, at this point I would say so," Fangio said on Wednesday.
However, it will not happen with Slay landing in Buffalo to play for the Bills.
