With success brings the possibility of change.

The Eagles had very low expectations entering the year, coming off a 4-11-1 season.  However, they are heading to the playoffs and now one of the non-playoff teams, the Denver Broncos, wants to talk to Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

Gannon, 39, came to Philadelphia after serving as the defensive backs coach in Indianapolis, and has been an NFL assistant for 15 seasons.

Denver general manager George Paton, came from Minnesoata, where he knew Gannon, the duo worked together during their time with the Vikings from 2014-17.

It was an up-and-down season for Gannon, who gave up historically bad completion percentages to guys like Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, Dak Prescott and Derek Carr, but settled in as the schedule lightened up.

Gannon had his name begin to float around later in the season, especially after allowing 16.5 points per game from Week 8 to Week 17.

Even though this is Gannon’s first year as a defensive coordinator there’s some interest in a coach who got a defense to rank 10th in yards allowed and yards per game this season.

Gannon has never been a head coach at any level, but he certainly has a goal of becoming a head coach one day.

"I think he would be awesome, for the same reasons that I hired him to be the defensive coordinator would be the same reasons I think he would be a really good head coach," Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni stated when asked about the possibility a few weeks ago.

"When people on your staff and people in the building are getting opportunities like that or get mentioned like that, that means you're doing some good things."

Meanwhile there are Eagles fans who would like to see Gannon fired and replaced with a guy like former Denver head coach Vic Fangio or maybe even former Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer.

However it is obvious that Gannon is a respected defensive mind around NFL circles, and his interview in Denver might be the first of many during this coaching cycle.

Having your assistants interviewed for head coaching jobs is a byproduct of winning and having unexpected success.
